Last year I posted some photos on facebook of the Spring Bluff Railway Station in Spring. The flowers were beautiful, outstanding in fact. Spring Bluff is a heritage listed railway station on the Ipswich to Toowoomba line. It was built in the 1860's and was used as a resting point before the long and arduous climb up the range to Toowoomba. In 1942, soldiers marched from the Carbarlah barracks, down the escarpment to catch the train from Spring Bluff to Brisbane to join the war effort.
During the Carnival of Flowers, you can catch a train to Spring Bluff Station from the Toowoomba Railway Station. The Toowoomba Regional Council and the volunteers that maintain the station do a spectacular job. The station is less than 2 hours from Brisbane and about 1.5 hours from Ipswich. The drive is beautiful and well worth it for a lovely day out with the family. There is a short bush walk, a playground for the kids, a BBQ area and picnic tables and a lovely little café. The best thing is you don't need to wait until spring. It's beautiful all year round.
